Letter from 2019 Directors

Dear Oneka Community,

As many of you have heard, Kevin Mackrell, Camp Oneka Owner and Director, passed away suddenly on October 21, 2018.  We thank you for your support and kind words during this very difficult time.

Kevin dedicated his life to creating a safe and fun environment at Oneka for girls to learn, experience new things, and make lifelong friends and memories.  He was passionate about carrying on the traditions at Oneka and cherished the friendships with campers and counselors that he made along the way.

While Kevin’s work and contributions to all aspects of camp will be greatly missed, Becky Mackrell and Ali Hunter will be opening and directing Oneka for the 2019 summer, and are looking forward to continuing Kevin’s mission.

Becky started at Oneka in 1986 and was a camper, counselor and assistant director before taking over as director and owner with Kevin in 2013.  Becky is a full time Latin teacher at Haverford High School in Havertown, PA with a dual certificate in Social Studies.

Ali started as a camper at Oneka in 1992 and was a counselor and waterfront director before becoming an assistant director in 2004. Ali is a full time first grade teacher at Harding Township School in New Vernon, NJ with a dual certificate in special education.

We are committed and prepared to provide the same meaningful camp experience that Oneka has offered girls for 110 years.  We appreciate your patience as we work through this transition. We encourage you to contact us with any questions, and thank you for your support as our Oneka community comes together to make camp the best it can be.

                                                            Turtles,

                                                            Becky and Ali

Kevin Mackrell dedicated countless hours to preserving Oneka's many traditions.  Please help us honor his mission by cotributing to the War Canoe Restoration Project:
