We encourage campers to try all the activities that Oneka offers. Girls travel with their cabin group to scheduled activities so that they get a chance to learn new skills and broaden their interests. The schedule changes daily to allow for weather conditions and camper requests. Third activity period, Freebie, is chosen weekly by each camper and lets them develop their own special interests. Want to play more tennis? Learn to waterski? Freebie is the time!
Evening activity is often free choice time, when most of the activity areas are open and girls can try several activities. Want to do some craft work and then take a sunset canoe ride – you can do it!
Many special events, like plays, talent shows, all camp games and campfires also occur during evening activity.
Weekends are also the time for special events like Red / White competitions and all camp activities such as the “Crazy Fun Olympics” and “Waterfront Extravaganzas.”
While Oneka has no religious affiliations, we do take a few moments on Sunday morning for “Sunday Service.” Each week a group of campers, Juniors, Ints, or Seniors, prepare a service for the entire camp, under the guidance of a counselor. Using themes such as friendship, honesty, respect, or saving the environment, the service provides a quiet time for thought and reflection.
